Changing the Game

Dan Pallotta has a lot to say about non-profit fund-raising. “Everything the donating public has been taught about giving is dysfunctional, says AIDS Ride founder Dan Pallotta. He aims to transform the way society thinks about charity and giving and change.”

In this 19 minute TED talk, yes it is a little time investment, Pallotta offers just 5 points about how non-profits are judged differently and at a huge disadvantage to other industries. Non-profits have been experiencing what he calls economic starvation and I wholeheartedly agree.

If you have ever worked for a non-profit in fund-raising, or volunteered in the role of fund-raising, you will agree too. You are asked to make miracles happen without the appropriate resources to even dream big.

Perhaps that is why one of my favorite quotes from his TED talk is  The next time you’re looking at a charity, don’t ask about the rate of their overhead. Ask about the scale of their dreams.

I hope that his ideas catch on so that we might continue to dream big dreams to make the world a better place for everyone.
