A Social Media April Fools’ Rivalry


On Saturday, Snapchat gave Instagram a little taste of its own medicine. They created an April Fools’ filter that makes your Snapchat image look like an Instagram post. The filter further poked fun at Instagram by making the post liked by only three users including “my_mum.”


Snapchat famously refused to sell to Facebook for three billion dollars and Facebook has been openly and successfully copying the platform ever since. They adopted the Snapchat Stories feature and even called it Instagram Stories. They also added similar features including the ability to write on images and add emojis. I project it’s only a matter of time before Instagram offers the ability to create custom geofilters. With the release of Snapchat Spectacles, I’m eager to see how Snapchat will continue to attempt to differentiate its platform.
