CNN recently reported that the President of the United States @POTUS Twitter account was vulnerable to hackers. The account hadn’t enabled security settings that require providing a phone number or email address to reset the account password. The POTUS account was also linked to a gmail address rather than a more secure .gov email address.
In this age of cyber attacks, it’s important to take all possible measures to keep your social media safe. Hackers could potentially tarnish your brands reputation or even influence an election. Have you taken appropriate measures to assure your brands social media security?
Here are a few tips to help keep your accounts safe:
- Review the account privacy settings for each of your social media channels to ensure all features are enabled.
- Limit the amount of people you share login information with and regularly change your password.
- Use a password manager such as Last Pass. Last Pass creates strong passwords for you and stores them securely.
The White House has since updated the email linked to the @POTUS Twitter account. Here’s to a more secure future.
