Be A Leader, Start A Movement

It was mentioned in class last night how simple it is to start something especially now with Social Media. We all have the opportunity to be leaders and to start movements, but how? Where do we start? Is it really that simple?

I must say that creating a page and forming a following is not always the easiest task. Quite honestly, coming up with an idea or a movement might be easier than forming a following.

Men’s Fitness

Men’s Fitness did a great article: How to become a successful social media influencer.

This article touches on many points about topic matter, following and how to make it big in the social media world. There are so many tricks to social media from when you to post to what you post, so finding your niche is key. Once you have a topic, you have to decide which social media platforms you want to use and also if you want them all to link up. For example: with a brand, the recommend that all profiles sync up and that all profiles have the same photo (your logo).

There is actually an app out there that is called If this then that. It is an app that allows you take a photo on Instagram and then cross post it to all other social networks. There are fast and easy way to keep everything connected. There are also timers you can setup so that your accounts send automatic statuses. For example: if you know you have a large following in Australia and they are only ever awake when you are sleeping, you can set a timer to send out a post that appeals to them in the middle of the night your time so they can see it during their regular day.

Once you have the posting down, be sure to control when it happens. Posting too often can become annoying, but posting too little can cause people to lose interest. In the beginning, the followers are key. I know when I created my fitness page, it took me some time to find the right group of followers. One tip is to go to other groups or other forums and share your story there. Note: always make sure with that group of forum that it is okay before doing so.

Regardless of what you decide to do, remember that quality is much better than quantity in the beginning. You need to focus on your content before you gain millions of followers. You want the right people following you, not a bunch of people who do not care. Lastly, people want you to tell them something they don’t already know. We are always looking for answers, answers to questions we do not even know yet. If you can find something unique and then take it to social media correctly, you will see how influential your platforms can make you.
