A great infographic is an instant revelation. It can compress time and space.

Infographics have grown by 800% in recent years for good reason.  We are visual creatures in that most of us process information based on what we see.  According to the Social Science Research Network, 65% of us are visual learners.

NeoMam offers the following reasons why our brains crave infographics:

  • we suffer from information overload
  • they are more engaging
  • more accessible
  • more persuasive
  • easier to recall
  • easy to digest
  • fun to share

Here are some tips from Social Media Today on leveraging infographics:

  • go beyond statistics and data
  • avoid text overload
  • keep it fresh
  • keep it simple
  • choose colors and typography wisely

As I plan a social media strategy for work, I for one will be looking for good infographics to inform, guide, and inspire.
