Music’s Biggest Night or Social Media’s Biggest Night?

Not only was this weeks’ 56th Grammy awards a head turner for celebrities and their fans, but also social media turns heads with creating a record of its own. This year’s 56th Grammy Awards Nets Record Social Media Interactions with 34 million social media interactions. These interactions are compiled by statistics from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr.

Quick Glance:
-Twitter: 15.7 million mentions

-Facebook: 13.5 million interactions

-Tumblr: 5.1 million reblogs

-YouTube: 5.7 million views

YouTube even saw a significant increase in views in the beginning of January with 5.7 million views of original Grammy content leading up to ‘Music’s Biggest Night’. A question all these increases brings to mind is…Did these ratings increase because people chose to ‘watch’ the Grammy’s through social media this year, rather than viewing the actual event? Or do the people behind the scenes of the Grammy’s have an unrevealed way of causing engagement over social media platforms?
