Social media scientists say the average person checks their smartphone over 200 times a day, spending an average of over 3 hours looking at the small screen.
Here’s one of those times, except the Redondo Beach, CA man checking his phone might have missed the moment of a lifetime as just a few feet from his boat a humpback whale surfaced, almost close enough to touch.
The photographer who shot the image was on a boat nearby actually looking for whales and felt bad for this missed encounter by the texting boater: “The poor guy never moved … I thought it sucked that he missed such a wonderful moment happening just two feet in front of him.”
