Who needs a realtor when you have Youtube!

Last night I slept in my new house for the first time. As I was lying down I started to wonder how social media has had an effect on the real estate market and how did it play into me purchasing my very first home.

We have seen how social media is having a dramatic effect on everything we do and social media is no different. During my process I used the likes of Trulia and Zillow, to search for homes throughout the Philadelphia area. These two sites gave me the initial background with pictures and detailed descriptions of the house before going to see it. It gave me statistics on whether or not a neighborhood was safe and where the best schooling systems were. Image

I was lucky in finding a realtor since my sister just got her license, but realtors these days are using social media more than ever. One of the most popular ways in which they are doing this is through Youtube and Facebook.

Through Youtube, Realtors are trying to do a couple things :

1. Build a Sense of Community and Trust

2. Adding value and Providing Information

3. Have the ability to show multiple listings in a shorter time

Being able to cut through the traditional home mailings, billboards, and the noise of agents trying to sell you on houses is over. Jan Green a realtor from Arizona says, ” (My) Google+, Twitter, and Facebook pages have helped reach individuals…20% of my referrals are through social media.”  With a computer or smartphone you are your own agent. No longer are the days of going to open house after open house. Nowadays just sift through your phone and go buy a house!

Hi, we had the same experience. If anyone is interested in seeing an interview with the CEO of Zillow, Spencer Rascoff, see the following link. http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/zillow-ceo-spencer-rascoff-pulling-back-the-veil-on-the-housing-market/

He has his MBA from Wharton, and he was able to speak for one of my clients!
