Goodbye Clutter….Or so they hope.
Facebook has retooled its profile page and newsfeed several times in its short existence. Each time they redesign the layout there tends to be backlash from the public.
Last week came word that the social media site is once again launching a redesign of their newsfeed. Facebook promises a much “cleaner” newsfeed responding to complaints from consumers about how disorganized it is. The new layout will structure the main page with a newspaper format. The newsfeed will be sorted into different categories with content based on “photos,” or “music,” or “friends.” The redesign will also give videos and pictures more prominence. Facebook seems to recognize an opportunity to grow by making their site more visual as they have seen the success of Instagram and Pinterest and their display of larger visuals.
Facebook says it will start rolling out the changes for the Web on Thursday, while mobile apps will start to see changes in the next few weeks. The roll out will be slow but it will be interesting to follow the public reaction, as they will be bound to have some issue with the new format.
Do you think this is just what facebook needs to prevent further erosion to their social media dominance? What would you like to see them change?
