This article, which I actually found through Pinterest, has some incredulous social media statistics and infographics. It is a very easy read with a tremendous amount of information. For instance, it is amazing to think that every 1 in 9 people in the world are on Facebook, and that if Facebook were its own country – it would be the world’s 3rd largest (after China & India)! And on average – research shows each user spends 15 hours and 33 minutes per month on Facebook!
LinkedIn, Twitter, Flickr, etc. are also discussed. I highly recommend taking a few minutes if not to read this article, to at the very least review the infographics.
Do you wonder why your productivity has dropped over the past 2 – 3 years?
There is a time sink and it’s not television!
Those of us who are connected to the internet and that is 2 billion of us, have been distracted by social multi-media publishing machines that are pumping out staggering amounts of content with enticing high definition images and videos!
I thought your post was interesting for a couple of reasons. First, it showed that indiscriminate use of social tools can, if not managed well, drain one’s personal bandwidth, and thereby limit personal experiences that are not appropriate for social media, like texting while walking through the woods instead of being in the moment. I would put that in the category of self-observation. And second, I would say it asks the reader to look at how social media allows relationships with others to be enhanced or expanded. I would call that perhaps inter-relationship management– measuring and understanding the impact of our behavior on others. Social media affects both. Just like if you have a hammer, every problem looks like a nail, not every social media platform is the best tool for every issue.
